The second largest ski resort and most visited park in New England, Sunday River, is located in Newry, Maine. It is a great place to visit during winter as well as summer because how it transforms from a winter wonderland of over one hundred ski trails, and an over two thousand foot vertical drop to its summer activities that include but are not limited to golfing, ziplining, and nature expeditions.

The Resort Atmosphere

To really take in the entire resort feel at Sunday River, it is best to stay in one of the three in-resort retreats. Staying in one of these excellent hotels or inns allows you to be the first one in line for your favorite lift or slope before people that decided to stay in one of the off site lodging options.

Located right next door to the ski trails of the Jordan Bowl, and a couple miles from the Sunday River Golf Club, the Jordan Hotel offers tremendous mountain views, a wide selection of room sizes from standard to suites with three bedrooms, as well as two restaurants and a cafe. With its complete fitness center that has a sauna, steam room and an outdoor heated pool with two jacuzzis, Jordan Hotel will make it very difficult for you to want to return to normal life when your vacation comes to an end.

Situated near the front gates of the resort, Grand Summit Hotel you are sure to be at the front of the line for all of the resorts key attractions whether it be summer or winter. With its majestic views, room sizes for everyone from individuals to families, and its large ballroom and conference centers, the Grand Summit Hotel is sure to be the place you would love to have conferences and weddings. If you would like to hit the slopes with your partner or take a romantic dip in the heated pool or hot tub, but have no one to watch your children, the Grand Hotel has childcare services on site.

Located in the heart of Sunday River, walking distance from the zip lines and a quick shuttle ride to each slope in the resort, is the Snow Cap Inn. Open three seasons, summer, fall, and winter, anytime is a great time to visit. Even though this lodging option does not offer suites, this is the perfect romantic retreat for couples or a cozy cabin like feel for families. Whether it be relaxing in the outdoor hot tub or one of the two fireplace lounges, your stay at the Snow Cap Inn is sure to leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized.

Out of the Resort Lodging

If you are unable to reserve a room or suite at one of Sunday River’s on site hotels or inns, you can still enjoy your visit to the resort by staying in one of our off site, yet nearby lodges. Being offset from Sunday River Ski Resort, this allows you to enjoy the resort as well as take in some of the local businesses and attractions.

Tucked away in the mountains is a charming lodging location known as Locke Mountain Townhouses, these one bedroom apartments are family friendly, sleeping up to four people comfortably. Since the apartments share a property line with the Tempest ski run, you can pretty much ski right to your apartments entrance. If the heated pool, scenic views from the balconies or a family foosball match in the community room are not what you are interested in, take a tour of the local attractions such as horseback riding, paddle boating or check out some of the antique shops.

Another great choice for lodging outside of Sunday River Resort is the River View Resort located in Bethel. This location has an array of different room sizes to accommodate individuals to families and is only a short drive from your skiing vacation. Whether it be playing pool in the recreation center, hitting the on site gym, taking a few laps at the indoor pool or enjoying the beautiful riverfront views, a peaceful time is sure to be had by all.
